10/26/12 Smackdown rundown / review

Smackdown started off with Randy Orton coming out and promising he was going to give Alberto Del Rio the most brutal beating of his life on Sunday.  Honestly, I believe it because since Del Rio fell out of the title scene, it seems like they don’t know what to do with him.  This was all thrown together and with Randy’s absence due to shooting his new movie, there wasn’t much build or reason given to any of this.  So of course Del Rio comes out and calls himself the true apex predator in the WWE and Orton said Del Rio talks big when he’s not around and tries to coax him into the ring.  Del Rio backs down and Wade Barrett takes a perfect opportunity and attacks Orton from behind.  At least it was a setup for the match tonight..  There’s some fluidity somewhere.

Lots of hype throughout the night for the whole Big Show and Sheamus meeting face to face in the ring.  Contract signings I get, even the debate I got.  This just leaves me thinking they had an open match slot.

After the commercial break, Rodriguez and Del Rio are interrupted by Teddy Long.  Del Rio starts claiming innocence regarding the attack by Wade Barrett.  Barrett then joined the group and Teddy told them Booker T. made Barrett vs. Orton for tonight.. Ding! Instant match that we already sorta knew was coming anyway.  I would have made it a handicap match.

Cody Rhodes vs. Kane

I would have honestly made that handicap match I mentioned above the first match of the night, but it is what it is.  I think it’s really cool that the tag division is getting a boost but it’s sad that the other divisions seem to be staggering around a little bit.  Just goes to show that WWE creative can’t focus on anything but one thing at a time.   So we got out first half of the tag hype for HIAC with Kane taking on Cody Rhodes.  More speculation on whether Team Hell No can hold it together even though they have since they won the belts.  You’d think they’d start to believe a little that they’re doing okay at least on one side of the commentary.  Then again, JBL spends so much time arguing with his broadcast partners that I’m surprised ANY speculation or match calling gets done at all.

When he’s not arguing, he’s good…  When he’s not arguing…

This wasn’t the shortest match in WWE history but in a little over 3 minutes, Kane defeated Rhodes.  Honestly, I would have rather had more Bryan-Sandow commentary than the apparent staring contest that’s supposed to go down for the main event.

After some footage of the largest lumberjack match in RAW history ( which I fell asleep during on Monday ), we see show sitting in his locker room and Booker is trying to get him to be professional tonight.  Show says he proved what he needed to prove on Monday and he has nothing to prove till Sunday.  Why is this our main event?  I think they’re playing fans for stupid here because when I saw the BANNER on the site, I knew this wasn’t going to be peaceful….duh!

The Miz vs. Yoshi Tatsu

This went down pretty much as I predicted.  Miz toyed with, tore into and destroyed Tatsu while JBL said that parity in WWE is the reason Miz lost recently.  What?!  Whatever..   Tatsu made a meager comeback, got DDTed.  Close up of Miz and then a Skull Crushing Finale… Yeah…   Was just a way for Miz to get some momentum.

More crap on the AJ scandal.  Maybe I’ll write a post about it later because MY GOD what a train wreck.

Tout from Zack Ryder.. Outside shot.. More lumberjack stuff.. WWE Main Event clip where Miz and Cole interviewed Paul Heyman.. Moving on.  DIVA’S CRAP..ugh.. someone please shoot me now.  That’s another train wreck I might post on.   I apologize in advance if I go on a rant during the diva’s tag review.

Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett

Okay I said in my predictions that Orton was going to get this.  THIS was the match that made Smackdown for me.  I was HAPPY to see Wade Barrett get one over on Orton even if it was with the help of Del Rio.  Going into this, you all knew how I felt and there was a split second where I flip flopped.  I actually went is Barrett going to get this?  Then I saw Orton set up for the RKO and was like awww  and then THEN.. Barrett got the 1..2…3.  I’m not a fan of the way it went down but I’m glad to see Barrett get the win here.

Kaitlyn & Layla vs. Aksana & Eve Torres

THIS WHOLE THING IS STUPID! There I said it and if you don’t want to hear the rest of my rant, please scroll down.  Aksana should have ended up with Santino and went after Antonio but noooo she gets wrapped up in this diva’s crap.  Looking at it from the match we now know about going down at HIAC, yeah it was a good match to set it up.  Really though the only good thing I have to say about this is that Kaitlyn looked like she could wrestle in this match.   I still don’t like all the hair pulling and smacking going on.  Sigh… Moving on.

Okay this just felt weird to me.  We had Josh Matthews and JBL talk a bit about WWE’s partnership with the Susan G. Komen foundation.  Then they did The Raw Rebound.  After that a segment with Sheamus and Booker where Booker is asking him to do the same thing he wanted Show to do.  THEN Kane told Daniel Bryan that if Bryan loses his match then they KNOW who the weak link is in Team Hell No..  Then commercial break.  Did we just totally have a segment of Smackdown with no wrestling?  This scares me…

Daniel Bryan vs. Damien Sandow

What is up with all these three to five minute matches?  Here we have the opposite of the first match of the night.  Sandow and Bryan are now in the ring and Kane and Cody are on commentary.  Cody does ALL of the talking.  Sandow ended up being back-dropped over the top rope right in front of the announce table.  Bryan suicide dives after him and hits it.  Cody gets up from his chair only to be shoved back down by Bryan.  Kane got up and stalked Sandow.  Referee got distracted giving Rhodes the chance to roll Bryan into the ring.  Sandow hit the neck breaker and it was over.  Pretty much what we expected but the tag team related matches were definitely a highlight of the night.

Sheamus / Big Show …Thing…

Once again, I fail to see what this was supposed to accomplish.  They exchanged some words, beat up some security and then when Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick, Show avoided it and rolled out of the ring.  Losers here.. security guards.

All in all Smackdown left me with a meh feeling.  I’m excited for Hell in a Cell but I feel that this show lacked big time hype for certain matches while other things got a little too much hype.  All in all I give it a 3 out of 5.
